On Saturday 17 March 2018 the UHL’s Home Birth Team celebrated the launch of the Home Birth Service. There were welcoming speeches from Elaine Broughton, Head of Midwifery and Annabelle Barker, Home Birth Team. Lots of families and friends came along and enjoyed what was such a lovely occasion. The event raised £1497.43 and the money raised will go towards making sure our patients receive the best possible care.
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust launched its first pioneering and dedicated Home Birth Team on 11 September 2017. Having a dedicated team means that women choosing to have a home birth will have two midwives supporting them during their labour and in the initial post-natal period with support in health, parenthood and feeding.
The Home Birth Team aim to provide the best possible care for women who make the choice to have a home birth and the Leicester Hospitals Charity Home Birth Team Appeal is raising money to realise that aim. The Appeal aims to raise £10,000 for our midwives to be able to attend aromatherapy courses, for bespoke ante-natal classes and a support network to extend care beyond the core service and for equipment to make the home birth experience that little bit better and for equality of care and choice for all women.
