At 11 days old Thomas Mcdermott was diagnosed with Salt-Losing Congenital Adernal Hyperplasia which affects his adrenal glands and his hormones and means he cannot retain sodium (salt).
This is a rare condition that affects 1 in 15,000 babies. Due to the severity of the condition Thomas has had to make regular trips to the Endocrine Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Thomas’ friends and family (Tommy’s Tigers) took part in the gruelling X Runner in April this year and raised over £2,200 for the Endocrine Department to say thank you for the amazing care and support Thomas and his family have received. Specialist Nurse Pauline Jones said:
“Many Thanks for your very kind donation to our Department! It is a great honour for us! We will make sure we will use this money to improve the care we offer to our patients.”
