‘Leicester Hospitals Charity Silver Appeal’ enhancing the care for frail and older patients

At Leicester’s Hospitals we treat 35,000 frail and older patients every year in our Emergency Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. A trip to hospital can be daunting for anybody but particularly those who have complex medical needs which often include dementia. To support this group and ensure their time in our Emergency Department is as positive as possible, staff have set up the Silver Appeal with the support of our charity. With your support the Emergency Department will be to able purchase equipment designed to meet these patients’ individual needs. This will include environmental enhancements like, relaxing colours and lighting, as well as comfortable arm-chairs and TVs to give our side rooms a homely feel. Communication devices, such as portable hearing aids, which will help patients to have clear conversations with staff and feel fully involved in decision making. You will also help to fund distraction devices like reminiscence boxes and other equipment including orientation clocks which can help anxious or confused patients.
