Leicester Hospitals Charity Children's Appeal

As parents, we do everything we can to care for our children. But when our child is really sick, they need expert help. The doctors and nurses of Leicester's Hospitals have a dream to create a children's hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, but they need your help to turn that dream into reality.

On 30th November 2017 the Board of NHS England met, and approved plans to keep and develop congenital heart services in Leicester as long as we can deliver against the national standards.  One of those standards is to co-locate our East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre from its home at the Glenfield Hospital to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, along with the rest of our children’s services by March 2020.

Leicester Children’s Hospital is one of the biggest children’s hospital services in the Midlands and Eastern England. We employ over 2,000 staff in the combined Women’s and Children’s Clinical Management Group. Our staff work as part of 70 specialist teams – and we have world experts in cardio-respiratory medicine, kidney disease, diabetes and other specialities.

Every day around 350 children come to Leicester Children’s Hospital. For many the treatment is quick and the children soon recover. But for a few, that first visit to hospital is the start of a life-changing journey, with a very uncertain outcome.

Bringing all our children’s services together on one site, in one place at the Leicester Royal Infirmary is crucial to the development of the service. To make this a reality we will need to raise substantial sums of money to complement the additional funds contributed by the NHS.
